Lessons with JP

When you learn with JP, each music lesson is tailored to fit your individual needs and goals. Whether you’re learning guitar, bass guitar, or mandolin, JP brings his expertise and passion to every session. JP welcomes students of all ages and skill levels, from beginners to advanced players. With personalized instruction, you’ll progress at your own pace, mastering techniques and building confidence in your musical abilities.

All lessons are taught at The Music Store Studios, located in Mesa, AZ. Lessons typically last 30-60 minutes and are priced at $25 per 30 minutes.

Guitar

JP’s journey with the guitar began in high school, where he joined the jazz band as a junior. Since then, he has performed professionally in numerous musicals, including Man of La Mancha, Jesus Christ Superstar, Hair, Godspell, and Jersey Boys. He further honed his skills playing in big bands and jazz combos at MCC and ASU and has been gigging professionally since the age of 16.

JP’s versatile career spans genres like jazz, rock, R&B, and country, performing in clubs and collaborating with artists such as Francine Reed, Dennis Rowland, and Steve Garcia. He has also served as instrumental music director and guitarist for over 25 years at various churches, including Mountain Park Church, Community of Hope Church, and Horizon Church.

In addition to his performance career, JP taught at several music stores, including what became The Music Store, for over 9 years before becoming its owner. He frequently substitutes at the Chandler Gilbert College big band and has performed numerous times with the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra, appearing with them over five times in the past two years.

Electric Bass

JP’s journey with the electric bass began in high school, where he joined the jazz band as a sophomore. By his junior year, he was playing with the Young Sounds of Arizona, a prestigious big band sponsored by the musicians’ union. He continued to develop his skills in big bands and jazz combos at MCC and ASU, and has been gigging professionally on bass since the age of 16.

JP’s versatile career includes working in musical theater and frequently substituting at the Chandler Gilbert College big band. He has served as an instrumental music director and bassist for over 25 years at various churches, including Mountain Park Church, Community of Hope Church, and Horizon Church. In addition to performing in clubs across genres like jazz, rock, R&B, and country, JP has also taught at several music stores, including what became The Music Store, for over 9 years before becoming its owner.

Mandolin

JP’s versatility as a musician is showcased by his rapid mastery of the mandolin, which he learned in just one month for the Phoenix Theater production of Fiddler on the Roof. His dedication and skill contributed to the success of the production, which recently completed a highly acclaimed 7-week summer run.

Ukulele

JP has developed his ukulele skills over the years, becoming an integral part of The Music Store’s “Uke Jams” alongside Byron Lipkins. His proficiency with the ukulele also led to his performance in the production of Spongebob at MCC.
